BHAM offers five show weekends each year April through August. Shows take place at Shiawassee County Fairgrounds (www.shiawasseecountyfair) in April, May, June, July (three day show) and at MSU Pavilion’s south barn and outdoor show arena (www.msu.edu/~pavilion) in August. Each day is double judged by ABRA approved judges. Our goal is to promote the exhibition of the buckskin horse and also to provide a show environment where the whole family can compete. BHAM offers All Color classes for those who do not have an ABRA registered horse to show.
Shows offer a variety of classes for all ages. There are seven divisions. ABRA Open Horse, ABRA Amateur, ABRA Youth 14-18 and ABRA Youth 13/Under require that the horse be registered with ABRA and that the owner and exhibitor have an ABRA membership. Amateur memberships and horse registrations must be purchased through ABRA before being allowed to exhibit in ABRA classes. Open and youth ABRA memberships may be purchased at the shows. All Color (AC) Adult, AC Youth 14-18, and AC Youth 13/Under classes require no memberships or registrations unless the horse is showing in an age specific class such as 2/Under halter or longe line. Other classes include PEE WEE for Youth 10/Under and Leadline for those 6/Under, First Year Green and Adult Walk-Trot.
BHAM Coupons are awarded to the first six places of each class. These coupons may be turned in for ribbons or used as cash for your show bill or to make purchases from BHAM vendors at the weekend shows and Buckskin Congress. 1st= $1.50, 2nd = $1.00, 3rd = $1.00, 4th-6th = $.50. You would be surprised at how much you can accumulate throughout the show season. A coupon table is available at each show to pick up your coupons once class placings have been entered into the computer.
Seven Division Saddles, are awarded each year. In order to be eligible for the prestigious Year End Division Saddle Award, you must be a BHAM member, pay sign-up fee ($10) and compete 14 times in EACH class in your division for that class to count towards your division points. Points accumulate on the date BHAM membership and sigh-up fee is received. This is the only year end award for the division saddle winner. The previous year’s winning horse/rider combination may not compete for this “award” the next year in the same division. However, the previous year’s winner may compete in the same division for all other year end awards. The seven divisions awarded are: ABRA Open Horse, ABRA Amateur, ABRA Youth 14-18, ABRA Youth 13/U, AC Adult, AC Youth 14-18, AC Youth 13/U.
