The Jr. BHAM Youth program is open to all youth with a BHAM membership which may include either a “Youth” or “Family with Youth” membership. Children of any age have a place of importance in this organization.
Youth Teams are offered to those who wish to participate and you need not have a horse to do so. Many of the non-riding siblings get involved and reap the benefits of joining a Youth Team. The purpose of Youth Teams is to encourage more youth participation in meetings, activities, projects and classes. Another benefit is that working together on a team helps bring ABRA and All Color kids as well as the youngest to the oldest kids together to build relationships and camaraderie. In the process they learn and practice life skills such as sportsmanship, goal setting, mentoring, creativity, and volunteering. For more information contact Youth Advisor, Nancy Rich at nrouzo@avci.net or call 810-678-4768. (Be sure to put “Youth Teams” in the subject line of an e-mail)
Jr. BHAM activities include meetings on Friday nights, service projects, fund raising, volunteering at shows, and the Jr. BHAM Sleepover and Pool Party in February. The sleepover is held the Friday night before the Awards Banquet at the same hotel as the banquet. There is a meeting on Saturday to elect officers and present the service project and activities for the upcoming year. The youth really look forward to getting together after not seeing each other most of the winter.
Jr. BHAM also has a growing scholarship program. At least $500 is given to the winning applicant each year. Interested applicants may download the criteria and application form or contact Rick Heimbuck at juri3940@aol.com or call 517-614-1549 to request forms. (Be sure to put “BHAM Scholarship” in the subject line of an e-mail) Scholarship funds are acquired through donations, Jr. BHAM membership dues, and the Silent Auction held at the All American Buckskin Horse Congress.
The BHAM Representative has a very important roll in this organization. He or she becomes the president of Jr. BHAM and is responsible for finding a service project(s) to support for the year. They also represent BHAM at various functions such as the Stallion Expo and other horse related events. They are encouraged to attend and participate in the ABRA World Show and compete for the national title of ABRA Representative although this is not mandatory. The candidates do not have to own a buckskin horse. All Color youth are equally welcome to participate in the BHAM Representative contest. Criteria and forms may be downloaded from this website or you may contact Heidi Gautz at gautzfarm@aol.com or 517-263-4974 for more information. (Be sure to put “BHAM Rep” in the subject line of an e-mail)
