JR BHAM YOUTH TEAMS

PURPOSE

• To encourage more youth participation in Jr. BHAM meetings, activities, projects and show classes.
• To bring ABRA and AC Youth kids together to build relationships and camaraderie.
• To give older kids the opportunity to mentor and encourage the younger kids to try different disciplines i.e. pattern classes, English, showmanship, etc… and coach them a little too.
• To encourage the practice of goal setting, achievement, creativity, and strategy.
• Just for the fun of working together and having fun doing it.
• Reward each member of the winning team a chair, jacket or vest (or whatever) that says something like “Jr. BHAM Champion Youth Team ”. Something they will be proud to wear or use.

TEAM SELECTION

• Each team must be divided equally. Every effort will be made to have at least (1) ABRA Youth 14-18, (1) ABRA Youth 13/U, (1) AC Youth 14-18, (1) AC Youth 13/U, (1) AC PeeWee 10/U, (1) Pee Wee Lead Liner 6/U or non riding Jr. BHAM members. (Non riding Jr. BHAM members are basically kids who have other family members showing but they don’t, however, they want to participate. They are utilized best working the fund raisers and volunteering.)
• Each team must have a fairly equal number of ABRA kids because they are the “wild cards” to be used for the option of going in ABRA Youth, ABRA Open, and AC Youth classes for extra points.
• New youth joining Jr. BHAM during the show season may be added to the existing teams throughout the show season.
• Youth sharing a horse should be on the same team.
• An Adult Team Leader is asked to help oversee the team and help with strategy and they are responsible for point keeping.

THEME

• Each team selects a name/mascot for their team such as Pirates of the Caribbean for example.
• Each team creates a stall card representing their team and has the Horse and Rider’s name, plus decorations and symbols representing their team. (pirates, ships, swords, etc…) for putting on their stalls at each show. Example….

Pirates of the Caribbean
Captain – Sara Veit
&
1st Mate – Cinnamon Shy

POINT SYSTEM

• Fund raising, volunteer, and service project points start at the April. Performance points start accumulating at the June show.
• 10 points for each class entered and shown in (5 for each judge) regardless whether you place or not.
• 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 point system for each place earned in a class.
• 1 point for every dollar earned in Jr. BHAM or BHAM fund raisers.
• 10 points for every Jr. BHAM Meeting attended.
• (Optional) 500 points to the winning team of the Costume Class held at the September show. 400pt for 2nd; 325pt for 3rd; 275pt for 4th; 250pt for 5th; 225pt for 6th. Costume selection would be based on team name or theme. i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean where each teammate is dressed like a pirate along with their horse.
• Points will also be awarded for Stall decorations (two judges without youth are selected)
• 10 points for fulfilling a volunteer work assignment (every 2 hour increment or an accumulation of 2 hours)

COSTUME CLASS CRITERIA

(Optional but would be fun during lunch break at August & September shows)
• At least one horse from the team is used for the costume presentation and at least one team member.
• Points are based on: creativity of presentation, write-up for presentation, theme music for background music, enthusiasm of the team as a whole.
• Total presentation should be limited to less than 5 minutes.

KEY PEOPLE NEEDED FOR SUCCESS

• Adult Team Leaders – responsible for overseeing the team and helping with positive strategies for accumulating the most points possible and helping keep track of point accumulation totals. Also responsible for encouraging good sportsmanship among the competing teams.
• Jr. BHAM Secretary – key person for attendance records at meetings and activities (Adult Team leaders give reports to secretary)
• Jr. BHAM Treasurer – key person keeping track of money making points (Adult Team leaders give reports to treasurer)
• Show Secretary – key person keeping track of show class attendance and points for the Adult Team Leader to document.
